I am having the same experience. It seems as though our members would rather listen to gossip than read for themselves. What is that all about? The Proposal seems reasonable considering the econmic state of the country. I believe that we can not get around some sort of give back. I'd rather contribute to my retirement than have to actually give something back to the City. I could be wrong but i don't think that I am. I hope that we are not pushing the Charter Amendment to the November Ballot.

This was not the normal process of re-negotiating our contract due to its expiring. This was coercion by the local ruling class team of Newsom, Elsburnd and the Chronicle. Their opening attack was around the "phony" bonus. They quickly followed up with the proposed Charter Amendment. Our administration took the bait. On 2/3 the Examiner quoted Newsome as saying that the Charter Amendment was off the table because it would make it too hard to gain concessions from the Operators. Our Administration should never have opened up negotiations before the expiration of the contract without express permission of the members.

You could be right regarding obtaining the permission of the Membership, but the process of the Charter Amendment seemed to move so fast. I am confident that we will speak very loudly on the Feb 16, 2010. From your prospective what is the process that should have been followed regarding the Charter Amendment? Do you think the Charter Amendment was real? If the proposal fails, how should we (Local 250-A) proceed?

The Charter Amendment SEEMED to move fast because the Chron gave it so much play and it followed on the heels of the phony bonus. It had to first get passed by the Supervisor Rules ctte and then get on the ballot and then passed by the voters presumably in June. The Union Admin. should have brought this question to us immediately - "what should we do?" - "what if we let it go to the voters?" - "what if we don't ?". There was no discussion among the members in a timely manner. Now we are playing catch-up and trying to understand this under pressure. There are clearly larger issues involved. Are you on the Presidio-Ops list?

Greetings,
Even though I was sick as a dog and unable to work today, I dragged myself out of bed and into the Gilley Room at 5 am to vote ...
both YES and NO.
I hoping to sum-up this ugly situation in the near future and post my thoughts. This is important for all of us to do so we can learn from each other.
The employer is bold, rapacious and racist. Due to the current crisis in Capitalism and Imperialism, the situation is far from over.
